Transit System Membership

Millions of New Yorkers rely on public transit to get to work, school, medical appointments and various other commitments. They save money, support the environment and become more connected with local residents. Many jobs are created, and our economy benefits as well. Countless reasons prove public transportation makes our state a better place to live.

Over the past year, with your help, we have:

• Highlighted the importance of transit service to keeping our communities moving during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for continued funding.
• Increased STOA funding above the levels proposed in the Executive Budget.
• Maintained state capital funding for vital infrastructure projects.
• Advocated for additional funding to cover the transition to zero emission vehicles. 

Here’s what we have in store for the coming year: 

• Another class of the Public Transit Leadership Institute (PTLI) for a new group of about 20 attendees ready to learn skills that they can bring back to their various areas of transit expertise and advance as future leaders in our industry. 
• Annual Transit Awareness Day that encourages our members to support and push for NYPTA’s 2024 Legislative Priorities.
• Our 2024 Conference & Expo, October 15-17, 2024 in Buffalo, NY.
• A well-communicated pro-transit message, consistently emphasizing the importance and value of public transportation. In 2024, NYPTA will continue to work to meet and anticipate growing needs to support our New York State communities!

NYPTA is a 501(c)(6) professional trade association that provides education, policy analysis, and advocacy on behalf of New York State's public transit industry.  An estimated 26% of NYPTA operating budget is allocated for lobbying activity.
